Painting from the Heart: A Journey into Divine Inspiration

I am asked often, what inspires me and how do I come up with the ideas for my artwork.

Today, I want to pull back the curtain and give you a glimpse into my head and my creative process.

Let's start at the beginning, shall we?

For me, it all begins with a deep connection to nature and divinity. There's something about the rustle of leaves in the wind, the way sunlight reflects color and mood, and the soft chatter of birds in the morning, that stirs my soul and sparks my creativity.

So, armed with my camera (or phone) or sketchpad, I set out to capture these fleeting moments, these glimpses of magic that nature provides. Many times I will use these pictures (in part or whole) as backdrops to my paintings.

But it's not just the outer world that fuels my art; it's the inner world too—my dreams, intuition, meditation, and personal experience ~ where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur. In this realm, I find my library of symbols and imagery that speak to the deepest parts of my soul. These images, both conscious and subconscious, find their way onto my canvas, inspiring meaning and mystery.

My paintings are never fully planned out. Sure, I may start with a rough sketch or a vague concept, but as soon as I put brush to canvas, something magical happens. This magic is my “sweet spot” ~ ideas flow, colors emerge, and symbols are second nature and come from a place inside me I hardly understand. It is cathertic and transports me to another space. It is timeless. Any creative person can relate to this process.

Speaking of colors, I'm a firm believer in the power of chromatic hues to uplift the spirit and elevate the soul. Think bold blues and greens, high energy fuchsias, and shimmering golds—all coming together in light and energy. These colors aren't just pretty; they're like little bursts of joy that invite you to dive deeper into the painting and lose yourself in its magic.

But perhaps the most important aspect of my art is its purpose. I don't just paint for the sake of painting. I paint to inspire—to remind people of the divinity that surrounds us, to invite them to be present with all of nature's wonders. My symbols are symbols of the divine, reminders of the interconnectedness of all things and the beauty that lies within each and every one of us.

So, there you have it—a peek into my creative process, a journey of discovery and inspiration. I hope you'll join me on this adventure, as we explore the depths of the soul and celebrate the beauty of the world around us.

Thank you all for being part of my journey. Until next time, keep shining bright and embracing the magic that lies within.
